Combined Autism and ADHD Assessment for Adults

At Assessing Neurodivergence UK, we provide a combined autism and ADHD assessment for adults, led by a Chartered Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with over 16 years’ professional experience across NHS and independent practice. Our approach recognises that autism and ADHD can coexist, overlap, and interact in complex ways, particularly in adulthood.

This private autism and ADHD assessment for adults follows recognised clinical frameworks and integrates both diagnostic pathways within a single, structured process. Rather than assessing each condition in isolation, an adult autism and ADHD assessment considers attention, executive functioning, sensory processing, communication style, emotional regulation, and lifelong patterns together.

Each assessment is tailored to the individual, exploring developmental history alongside current functioning across work, relationships, and daily life. The outcome is a clear, integrated formulation and practical recommendations designed to support understanding, well-being, and informed next steps.

Why Some Adults Seek a Combined Autism and ADHD Assessment

Some adults begin exploring assessment after years of feeling that a single explanation does not fully reflect their experience.

A combined assessment may be appropriate if:

  • Traits of autism and ADHD both resonate
  • Previous assessments felt incomplete
  • Attention difficulties sit alongside sensory or social differences
  • You have developed coping strategies or masking behaviours over time
  • Work, relationships, or burnout have prompted further reflection

An integrated assessment brings these strands together, helping build a clearer, more coherent understanding.

Clinical Expertise in Adult Autism & ADHD Assessments

Combined autism and ADHD assessments for adults at Assessing Neurodivergence UK are led by Dr Sara Dowsett, a Chartered Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Assessments are delivered in line with recognised professional and ethical standards, with particular attention to complex or overlapping neurodevelopmental presentations.

Dr Dowsett holds a Doctorate in Psychology (PsychD), alongside an MSc, BSc (Hons), and Advanced Diploma, and has over 16 years’ experience across NHS and independent practice. Her clinical work includes multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental assessment services, where careful diagnostic formulation was essential when traits did not fit neatly into a single category.

An adult combined assessment explores how lifelong patterns of attention, executive functioning, sensory processing, communication style, emotional regulation, and coping strategies intersect. Many adults have developed masking techniques or compensatory strategies, so the process looks beyond surface presentation to understand underlying patterns and their impact on work, relationships, identity, and mental wellbeing.

The assessment integrates recognised diagnostic frameworks for both autism and ADHD. Findings are brought together into a clear clinical formulation, with a structured written report that outlines diagnostic conclusions and coordinated, practical recommendations for ongoing support.
