Combined Autism and ADHD Assessment for Children

We provide private combined autism and ADHD assessments for children, led by a Chartered Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with over 16 years’ professional experience across the NHS and independent practice. Our combined assessments are designed to support a clear, balanced understanding of how autism and ADHD may interact for a child, recognising both strengths and areas where support may be needed.

This autism and ADHD assessment for children follows recognised clinical frameworks and is delivered using an evidence-based, person-centred approach. We work closely with parents and caregivers to build a full picture of a child’s development, communication, attention, behaviour, and emotional regulation, drawing together information from home and, where appropriate, school.

When a Combined Autism & ADHD Assessment May Be Helpful

A combined autism and ADHD assessment may be helpful when a child’s needs don’t fit neatly into a single explanation.

Parents often consider a combined assessment when:

  • Traits of autism and ADHD overlap, making it hard to tell which is driving a child’s difficulties
  • Feedback from school is mixed or inconsistent, with attention, behaviour, and social communication all raised
  • Previous assessments or screenings have felt partial or incomplete
  • A child shows strengths in some areas but struggles in others in ways that don’t fully align with one profile
  • There is uncertainty about the most appropriate support or next steps

A combined approach brings these strands together, helping families move forward with clarity rather than multiple, separate assessments.

You’re in safe hands for a more complex assessment

Our combined autism and ADHD assessments for children are delivered in line with recognised professional and regulatory standards. Each assessment takes a careful, child-focused approach that considers how attention, communication, behaviour, and development interact, while remaining sensitive to each child’s individual needs and experiences.

Clinical Expertise in Child Autism & ADHD Assessments

Combined autism and ADHD assessments for children at Assessing Neurodivergence UK are led by Dr Sara Dowsett, a Chartered Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Assessments are conducted within recognised professional and ethical frameworks, with particular care taken where presentations are overlapping or less straightforward.

Dr Dowsett holds a Doctorate in Psychology (PsychD), alongside an MSc, BSc (Hons), and Advanced Diploma, and brings over 16 years of experience across NHS and independent practice. Her background includes multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental services, where complex diagnostic questions required careful integration of multiple evidence sources.

A combined assessment looks at how attention, activity levels, communication differences, sensory experiences, emotional regulation, and learning patterns interact. Rather than assessing each condition in isolation, the process builds a joined-up clinical formulation that considers developmental history, school functioning, family context, and everyday impact.

The assessment follows established diagnostic frameworks for both autism and ADHD and draws on recognised tools across both pathways. The final report provides clear diagnostic outcomes, explains how different traits may overlap, and offers practical, coordinated recommendations to support education, wellbeing, and day-to-day life.
